Never Be the Same Again!

The era of "Never Be the Same Again" is an era that's low key a big print in Pop Culture and a staple for girl groups, high key slept on by the majority music industry!

Melanie Chisholm (a.k.a. Melanie C. a.k.a. Sporty Spice) is 1/5 of the greatest selling girl group worldwide, 'The Spice Girls'. After releasing and promoting their sophomore album, 'Spice World', that helped sent them over the top, in 1999, the group decided to take a small break, and focus on solo endeavors before  going in for their third album, 'Forever'. Melanie C. stayed with their then label, Virgin Records, and record her first of now 7 LP's, entitled 'Northern Star'.

Melanie said she was in the studio, and was working on one of the tracks entitled "Never Be the Same Again", and felt something was missing, that may need a feature, and it came to her that will need the accompaniment of Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes. Melanie expressed she always been a fan of TLC, and that Lisa was always her favorite member. With her rhythmic style, it could help set the song to a whole 'nother level! Melanie got in contact with Lisa and Lisa confirmed to do the collaboration. Melanie teased this in a interview, and the song came out with the album as an album track on October 18th, 1999 with "Goin' Down" already released as the lead single. After releasing the album-titled track "Northern Star" as the second single after the album's release in November, it wasn't until March 20th of 2000 that "Never Be the Same Again" was released as the third single. They shot the music video around January in Malibu, California before it's official single release when Lisa was fresh off of or still doing the 'FanMail Tour' with TLC to promote their third album, 'FanMail'.  The video is allegedly supposed to take place in Iceland, centering around self-care and good health, a chill day as Melanie C. is seen resting and jogging alone before doing tai-chi with Lisa.  After the single's release, Lisa decided to join Melanie C. on a European Tour to promote their collaboration. Her uncle, Fashion Designer named Kyle Young, joined them on their tour and designed clothes for their tour. Lisa's new boyfriend, Shawn Newman, joined them as well and where they made their relationship public.

"Never Be the Same Again" became Melanie's first #1 single, and it stayed there for around 10 weeks, mainly in the United Kingdom, making them both more stars then they already were, but overseas! Unfortunately, the song never really charted in the U.S., a dismay to both of them, mainly Lisa, who is from the U.S. After it left it's #1 position, the song pretty much fell out of plain site. Later on, after the touring, Melanie went to promote her album with  a 'Northern Star Tour' before joining up with the group again for their next album. Lisa was unable to join her as she, herself, started her process for her debut solo LP, 'Supernova'. She wanted Melanie C. on the album, however, it never happened. She tried to get Melanie on her sophomore album as N.I.N.A. with Tha Row Records, but unfortunately, she passed away while doing the project. Melanie still grieves over Lisa's passing after spending such a wonderful time with someone she truly admired and called a friend. Their tour together was the last time they performed together. This was the first, and last, time a member of the Top 2  HIGHEST selling girl groups of all time worked together, made a hit, and toured together without any drama! An era to embrace, an era, to cherish, and an era to love, especially if you're in a girl group yourself.
