the 2000 MOBO Awards

The MOBO Awards (Music of Black Origin) is an annual award ceremony to honor the mainstream Black musicians, mostly located in the United Kingdom, who deserve award recognition for their hard work, and contributions to the world with their art. This was after Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes did a promo run earlier in 2000 with Melanie C. for their smash hit single "Never Be the Same Again" in the United Kingdom, making her return to Europe later that year for the award show.

Lisa was asked to host the 3rd Annual 2000 MOBO Awards Show in the United Kingdom. Accepting the offer made Lisa the first Black American Woman to host the MOBO Awards. Bill Bellamy was the first African American Male to host the show, Melanie B. (Spice Girls) was the first African European Woman, and then Lisa, co-hosting with DJ Trevor Nelson. She used her platform not only bring up taboo topics every chance she had (like the bad chemicals we fed/feed our chickens, how bad the water is verses the water in Honduras), but wear 6 different outfits made by her uncle, Kyle Young, wearing 5 different wigs, different shoes, thanking LA Reid for bailing her out of jail while presenting him an award, and do another performance outside of TLC with Donell Jones for their song "U Know What's Up (Remix)" such ended up being her last solo performance outside the group. Also, the last TV show she hosted/co-hosted.

This event took place after she went "missing" with her then boyfriend, Shawn Newman, using the publicity they were getting for their romantic getaway, bailing on gigs such as Shawn modeling in New York Fashion Week, and Lisa not attending the press conference for MOBO Awards in Las Vegas and presenting an award without TLC at the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards.
