Supernova 7:24

Nothing but 'Supernova'.

Left Eye first started recording solo music in 1997, under LaFace Records. Then, her album was titled 'Fantasy.com'. However, because the name sent some of her fans to a pornographic website online that actually withheld that title, she changed it to 'Fantasy1.com'. She was recording the album for about 2 years. The song title"Let's Just Do it" made it's way online in 1998, and Lisa confirmed, through her chats with fans, that she wasn't sure whether it was going to be on her album, or TLC's 'FanMail' album. When 'FanMail' was finished, Lisa told the fans, to not conflict with her work with TLC, that she was going to drop the album after TLC was finished with 'FanMail'. Lisa revisited the album after 'FanMail's release, and decided to start all over.

When revisiting the album, LaFace Records was no longer. Clive Davis stepped down and L.A. Reid has taken over During that point, Left Eye most definitely wanted to name the album 'Fantasy.com' again, and did whatever she could to secure the name this time. When she did so, she ended up scrapping the name, and moved on to 'A New Star is Born', but kept it under wraps as she potentially may change her mind again. She revealed in the interview that she recorded some music, and presented it to her label, Arista Records, and it scared L.A. Reid. He feared the album was going in a direction that was too dark, so he connected with Biggie's old manager, Mark Pitts, and asked if he can become Lisa's A&R person, to help brighten the album up more to everyone's liking. Lisa accepted his help as well.

"Well, let's just say that I'm gonna take everyone on a magical journey, OK?"

Left Eye listed these people as the people she wished to feature on the album as well:

Lisa says that the album will be rooted in "hardcore hip hop" spiced with "a few other genres of music." Left Eye is very adamant about this statement.  "I plan to change the game."

Left Eye stated in a radio interview in 2001 with Capital One that she recorded 25 songs for the 'Supernova' album. She also said she started writing in October of 2000 for her album. The album was anticipated a release in February or March of 2001, but her brother, Ronald, confirmed, that those dates weren't official, and that around May 2001 may end up being the very period of it's release. TLC founder, Ian Burked, announced March 13, 2001 to fans "Plenty of trax or complete or near completion, who's on the album right now is top secret." April 22, 2001, he also said that TLC was going to release another album too in 2001, their fourth album, '3D', while 'A New Star is Born' was still being recorded. The titled was released as 'A Star is Born', instead, however, through Entertainment Weekly, stating it was seeing a released August 14th, 2001. Ian Burke stated he didn't hear the title from Lisa, but also said "Hmmm, that's news to me, and I'm being honest about that, this is the first time I'm hearing that title. But you know how Lisa is, she'll tell someone something just to get some sort of feedback, but that don't mean it's gonna stick..." ... Well, was he wrong?

' 02/24/01  In the March 15th issue of Rolling Stone they have a blurb on Lisa's album.  It reads: TLC's scrappy diva Lisa "Left-Eye" Lopes is working on tracks for her debut solo album, due out in August. Since mid-December, Lopes has been in her home studio in Atlanta, joined by two young production teams, Cool Rawkus and Twin Dragon. She has expressed interest in collaborating with a wide range of guest stars including Dixie Chicks, Jay-Z, Method Man, Eminem, Pink and DMX. The singer first announced her intention to release a solo album in 1999, when tensions within TLC led her to challenge her group mates to each record a solo album and to package the threee together as a TLC album. Though that plan has been tabled, TLC's Chilli has a Dallas Austin-produced album due at the beginning of the next year. TLC, meanwhile, will debut a few new cuts on a greatest-hits album slated for release in the fall.  News courtesy of Derric '

' 04/16/01  In the latest issue of MC2 magazine with Fatboy Slim on the cover, there is a 2-page feature article on Left Eye.  The majority of the article talks about the equipment she uses in her Stone Mountain home studio.  She has an ISDN line where she can transfer tracks from her home to anywhere in the country.  Also, if she leaves out a word, she can use an editing tool she has to edit a word in or out without anyone knowing that she didn't say the sentence that way.  Pretty cool!  There is one new pic in the magazine from the Goodie Mob video shoot.  And about her solo album?  "I want this album to do better than TLC's records. I have very high expectations of myself, so it's not just about doing better with TLC, it's about doing better than anything I've done in the past." '

Although Lisa said she finished recording in April of 2001, Ronald said in May 31, 2001 that Lisa was almost finished with the album. He said she had more then enough music recorded, 12 songs would be on the album, they didn't sound like TLC records, but he did like them, and that names come and gone when it came to the album title. TRL told everyone the album was coming out August 16th, not August 14th, but MTV came, and stated it was coming August 14th. Through a conversation with friends, the name 'supernova' was brought up, and Lisa looked up it's meaning. Once finding out, she was sold on her debut album being called 'Supernova'. It was exposed June 14th, 2001 to fans, but wasn't confirmed until within' the next 5 days later. Fans were told that the album's structure will be based off of Numerology:

' 06/19/01  "In numerology, my number is 9..."  Yep, we know.  But what exactly do we know about Lisa and her infatuation with numerology?  Well, how about this.  Every track on Lisa's album goes by numerology.  Track 1 on the album will be based around the concept of 'Knowledge.'  In numerology, there are 11 numbers, 1-9 and 11 and 22.  If her album follows this pattern, it would give us 11 tracks - 2 most likely being hidden, the 11 and 22.  9 tracks doesn't seem like many, but she may throw in some interludes.  If she follows solely by the numerology charts, we'll only have 9 tracks, plus 2 bonus joints.  Oh, and yes, it is confirmed, Lisa's album WILL be called "Supernova."  Tia and I are looking into the meaning behind all of the tracks now, and when we figure out more, we'll let you know. '

'06/20/01 Here's an update on the numerology aspect of Lisa's album.  According to numerology charts, the meaning behind Lisa's songs could go something like this:
1-Independence, Individuality
2-Cooperation, Closeness
3-Enthusiasm, Optimism
4-Working Hard, Practical
5-Variety, Excitement
6-Balance, Responsibility
7-Analysis, Understanding
8-Accomplishment, Power
9-Selflessness, Humanitarianism
11-Illumination, Nervous Tension
22-Master Builder, Latent Power '

During this point of the album, it was announced that Lisa & Andre were engaged to be married.

"I'm excited to connect with the people as a solo artist-not just TLC fans, but everyone," says Lopes.  "I want them all to play.  I'm about to change the game."  Also, just because we're hearing all this solo buzz, don't think Lisa is done with the group.  A line from one of her raps on "Supernova" reads: "Everybody says all they want is the truth/well, the truth is, I still got love for my group."

Lisa wanted to drop 'Supernova' on August 16th, 2001 in tribute of her father and her grand father. Her father and grand father died on each other's birthdays. August 16th was her father's birthday, and her grand fathers death date. E

"It's a very significant release date for me. It was something that has been sitting in the back of my mind for a couple of years now like, 'Wow, I wonder what that means?' There's magic in those numbers for me, because 162001 equals 10, which in numerology is symbolic of a star, and the album is called Supernova. It all ties in. It's a conceptual thing but there's a deep meaning buried in it. Everything has a double meaning."

ven though the industry only released albums on a Tuesday then, stating the album will have to be released on August 14th, it will be August 16th in her heart. However, as well, on Japanese websites, it was being announced that the album will be pushed to September 2001.  A promo was sent to CyberTLC World July 31st, 2001, and this is what they had to say via Left Eye Updates:

' 07/31/01  There have been numerous track listings that people have seen on the album, but here is a semi-official one.  I received a promo for the album in the mail today, and it contains 12 tracks.  The album doesn't come with any inserts or credits, just the CD.  The track listing is subject to change I'm sure, but this will give you a pretty good idea of what to expect.  The tracks are:

01-Life Is Like A Park
02-Hot
03-The Block Party
04-Let Me Live
05-Jenny
06-I Believe In Me
07-Rags To Riches
08-Breathe
09-Untouchable
10-Keep Your Head To The Sky
11-Universal Quest
12-A Star Is Born

My reaction on the full album thus far is mixed.  I'm currently working on lyrics for the site, and will be getting the audio up sometime before the actual release date.  Stay tuned... '

On August 7th, 2001, 'Supernova' was pushed back to October 16th, 2001. She went back and recorded 2 more songs for the album. Arista Records wanted her to beef the album up more, based on the responses of the album. Speaking of responses, +10 years later after CyberTLC World released their full reaction, Lisa's Uncle Kyle made him aware that Arista Records read his reaction, and because of how negative it was, it had an effect on the promotion of 'Supernova'. He wasn't the only one who had something say to CyberTLC World, Lisa, herself, visited his site, and sent him a direct email saying this:

"First off, I Love Your Sight... but let's get down to business. As I registered, there were a set of rules that I was asked to agree to....You are in Contempt of Your own Rules!  Not only have You posted copy written material, but Your lyrics are Inaccurate!  I do not appreciate being misquoted!  Your Opinions are well taken, but You must refrain from spreading any lies, material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, hateful, obscene, invasive of a persons privacy, or posting material that is copyrighted in connection with TLC or SUPERNOVA! What You have done is most WHACK in My Eyes!"

Chris' response: "Apparently in expressing my opinion on Left Eye's album "Supernova," I have come to anger/hurt the one person who has everything riding on this album.  In short, in getting Lisa to visit the Message Board I alienated myself from the group and received a personal message... I alienated myself and had to take the brunt of the backlash. If I have to be the one fan who expresses my honest opinions and have it offend a member, then I'll take the responsibility. I got what I wished - Left Eye knows what we all think. Be careful what you wish for sometimes. Now I have a whole new problem to take care of. If I had to do it over, I would keep it the same. At least this way she knows I'm not hiding behind a facade that isn't me. Let's leave it at that."

Chris responded to Lisa's email, and she responded: "Hey Chris, Just got around to checking this e-mail. Listen, I am not in need of an explanation unless it'll just make You feel better. I have no hard feelings what-so-ever. I respect Your opinion. I only want to help people and I am striving to do that through My music. Your opinion helps. You have great pressence on the net and what You say has power and influence. Regardless of what anyone thinks about My music, it was straight from the heart. Everyone wants to decide for themselves what My heart should consist of. Think I'm gonna lose sleep over it. Did That already in the past. People are so easy to please. Give em a bunch of food with sugar in it... as long as it tastes good they're happy. Tell em the sugar is really poison to the body and they can't handle it. People wanna live in a fantasy world... like CyberTLC. I speak the truth. Like Me... Like You. Take a closer listen. Anyway, I need a few Webmaster Reps. Would You Be interested? If so, hit Me back. Thank You! I am on Your team!  Lisa"

Although 'Supernova' was pushed back, and was unable to purchase online yet, Left Eye made 'Supernova' available for sample 12:00am August 16th - August 23rd on Eyenetics.net, Yahoo!, MTV, and GetMusic.

"I have so much more to offer now, because I've had an opportunity to dig into my talent as a - what am I going to call myself?  I'm not a rapper, although I guess you could say so.  I've just really gotten a chance to dig into myself.  And there are things I'm doing on 'Supernova' that I never thought of doing with TLC, because I never had that much time to explore different avenues.  I've discovered all kinds of things that would really contribute to the TLC sound. When I do photo shoots and interviews now, it's a lot easier because there's only one of me.  I can say what I want to say and not have to worry about the moral issues of everyone in the group. So I feel lighter.  Free."

By October 3rd, 2001, the album still didn't make it's way to the United States of America, however, the album has released in other areas, including Europe. 'Supernova' was anticipated to be released October 23rd, 2001 when as TLC's '3D' was scheduled to be released November 20th, 2001. Besides all the drama, fans decided to run a poll on their favorite songs, and here were the Top 3:

"Hot!" (121 Votes)

"Let Me Live" (63 Votes)

"True Confessions" (62 Votes)

Here are some more reviews on 'Supernova':

European Daily Record Review: "TLC's Lisa Left Eye Lopes' debut solo album is a sparkling diamond as cute vocals combine with utterly awesome raps. Going solo was a gamble for the sassy princess of rap, but it has more than paid off."

a Swedish newspaper: "On the album, 7 of the songs have guest artists and it's a bit much.  Most of the songs are too long and you can't listen to the CD right through.  After 2 or 3 songs you get tired of Left Eye and you need to take a break from her.  I really tried to find a big hit on this album (which I listened to 3 times), but I got disappointed.  Possibly "Let Me Live" could get played a lot, or maybe even "Rags To Riches."  "The Block Party" wins a few points because of its rhythms, but it's a bit annoying with the screamy voice.  "A New Star Is Born" works as background music when you clean your house."

DotMusic Review: "'I Believe In Me' tackles her low self-esteem by reciting TLC's sales figures and the great line, "I'm Diana Ross and not a Supreme", which'll provoke some interesting discussions when her band reconvene in the studio. For those of us who find the airbrushed niceness of Beyonce Knowles increasingly irritating, it's great to have Left Eye back."

While Europe is loving the album, United States wasn't going to see another release date until 2002 as they requested Left Eye to go back into the studio, and record more music for the album. Lisa's thoughts? She expressed them to fans through her conversation with them Lycos Chat November 9th:

"I think Arista is going through a very large transitional period right now.  The company is trying to do what they feel is best, but things are a little slow at the moment.  But we are all trying to work together!  I feel the same about the promotion of my album, but my angels are tapping me on the shoulder, 'Chill, we got this!'"

The same day, however, she also expressed about not getting her back end money from completing the album. Also, because they requested her to go back, and record more music, Arista Records breached their contract with her, as a solo artist. This was basically the end of the era. She requested them to drop her from Arista Records, however, when they stated it was possible, they never brought it light, like Lisa's back end money, expecting her now to solely focus on TLC's '3D' album, that got pushed back to that next year in 2002. To hit them where it hurts, however, unfortunate to T-Boz and Chilli, Left Eye felt she had to go on strike from the album, until her demands are met. It was being reported that she signed to Tha Row Records, however, because she was still signed to Arista Records, she was only an affiliate who recorded music under them as a potential artist for the label.

It was said that in her last months in the states before she died, she was giving up on Tha Row Records, and was planning on coming back to the TLC '3D' project. After Left Eye's funeral, The Lopes Family had a meeting with L.A. Reid in regards of finally releasing 'Supernova'. Soon after, fans in the US were getting the album in local stores. When she was with Tha Row Records, she not only was recording her sophomore album (allegedly called 'Fantasies') under them, but she planned on remixing 'Supernova' under them as well. She re-recorded "Untouchable" and "Rags to Riches" before her death. Suge Knight teamed up with LA Reid to finish the album by sending Suge Lisa's vocals from the album. Suge planned on dropping the album, but The Lopes Family stopped it's release. The album leaked over 10 years later.

Today, 'Supernova' can only be purchased on Amazon.com. It was uploaded to Spotify before, but then later removed. It would be nice if it was available for purchase on iTunes and available to stream on Spotify.

"Life is Like a Park"

06/07/01  In a recent MTV interview, Lisa gave a few more details on her album.  "I didn't move too far away from TLC, but I definitely moved into some arenas that are the next step.  It's hard to describe. I've been trying to figure it out. I haven't come up with the right term yet," Lisa said.  Also, a new collaborator that has come to light is Carl Thomas.  Add him to the list of 2Pac and Lil' Kim.  MTV also reports on an August 14th release date.

Song title was announced June, 23rd, 2001.

06/28/01 The track "Life Is Like A Park" - that song features Carl Thomas.  I'm also being led to believe that along with the CD being entitled "Supernova," that there may also be a song called the same thing.  I guess we'll wait and see...

07/21/01  Here's some news from Ron on any thoughts on a second single as of yet?  "Don't know, but I like 'Life Is Like A Park.'"

08/09/01  As we reported two days ago, Lisa's album has been pushed back.  The new street date for the album is October 16th, 2001.  In the meantime, CyberTLC World will be putting up RealAudio of six tracks from the album before any other site (of course).  The tracks will include "Life Is Like A Park," "Let Me Life," "I Believe In Me," and "Head To The Sky."  Stay tuned for the audio to these tracks as well as the lyrics in the coming days.

Ronald Lopes hinted that he liked that song and may have waned that to be the second single.

"Hot!"

' 05/05/01  MTV News reports that Dana "Rockwilder" Stinson has submitted a track for Left Eye's solo album.  CyberTLC World recently talked to Lisa's brother Ron about this, and he gave us a few details.  First off, when will promotion kick in?  "Hopefully soon.  She wants a single out this summer, [and the album] probably August."  And the Rockwilder track, has it been completed?  "Yea."

' 06/23/01 Remember that Rockwilder track?  That one is called "Hot."

06/28/01 Here are a few more details on the 'Supernova' tracks.  First off, "Block Party" was produced by Salaam Remi.  Then on the Rockwilder produced "Hot," Lisa raps "She's the one you thought would never do a solo LP/Yeah, now what chick could outsell me?''

06/29/01 I talked to Ron Lopes today about the new album.  Some people have heard "Hot" played on the radio, and were confused as to whether they changed their minds on the first single.  "Well that's a hype song.  [It will] get peeps talkin'," Ron said.  Apparently "Hot" will be a radio single first, with "Block Party" coming after.

Ronald Lopes and fans Couda & Court recorded additional vocals on "Hot!"

"Hot!" was supposed to be the first single.

"Hot" was going to be the second single.

09/01/01  The latest BET Top 20 volume 7 CD features Left Eye's track "Hot" at number 16.  Pick it up if you don't have your own copy of the song yet.

"The Block Party"

06/20/01 According to various Atlanta TLC fans, the radio stations in the area have been buzzing with news of Lisa's first single, reportedly called "The Block Party."  Listeners claim that the track is supposed to drop soon, and the video will be shot at various locations throughout California.  We'll check into this some more and keep you updated.

06/21/01 It has been confirmed, Left Eye's first radio single will in fact be "The Block Party."  Lisa is due to be in Los Angeles next week to begin shooting the video for the single.  We'll keep you posted as more details develop.

06/23/01 The first single, "The Block Party?"  Supposedly it "is a left-field summer anthem with a slinky groove and
a great novelty hook."

06/26/01 Lisa is in California right now shooting the video for her song "Block Party" with director Hype Williams.  We all know that a Hype Williams video is sure to be hot.  Can't wait!

06/28/01 Here are a few more details on the 'Supernova' tracks.  First off, "Block Party" was produced by Salaam Remi.

06/29/01 I talked to Ron Lopes today about the new album. "Block Party" will still be the first single... Apparently "Hot" will be a radio single first, with "Block Party" coming after.  As for the "Block Party" video, Lisa was supposed to shoot this week with Hype Williams, but, according to Ron, Lisa hasn't started shooting yet.

07/04/01  If you haven't heard "The Block Party" yet, head to the Supernova Audio section and listen to it!  The song has an old school flavor, and sounds to me like Lisa was trying to make a song that sounded like one of those little hopscotch chants.  And who is that Asian voice in the track?  Ron says that he thinks it's a sample from a different song, but he's not sure which one.  Some people don't seem to think that it really is an Asian girl (they think it sounds like someone pretending to sound that way), but Ron says that it is.  Anyway, start requesting the song on your local radio stations!

07/12/01  Sorry about the lack of updates lately people, I've been busy and ya know it ain't easy to be running this site alone!  Anyway, Left Eye's video shoot is over.  At the taping, our friends Alisa and Stephen got the CyberTLC Fans a shoutout on the set of her new video.

07/14/01  Here's news on the Left Eye video.  First off, almost all of the shooting was done on green screen, so they can use computers to put in the backgrounds later on.  Hype Williams did in fact produce the video as we previously reported.  The video was shot in different scenes.  One of the scenes was a party scene, with the dancers wearing bright clothes.  The second part was at a disco club with a disco ball and strobe light.  A third scene had a playground with kids playing and jumping rope.  The fans that made it to the shoot were put into the playground/block party scene.  Some of the people that will be in the video that you may know include Lisa's sister Raina and brother Ron, as well as one of the girls from Blaque.  So, was Andre there?  From what I hear, no.  However, funny enough, Sean Newman was spotted :-)  As well as some of the Blaque girls being in the video, they will also be on Lisa's album (or two of them will anyway, from what I hear.)  The song will be called "Keep Your Head To The Sky."  And another thing, Andre Rison is said to make an appearance on the album :-)  Oh, and Lisa is going to try to put a hold on the album so stores don't put it on the shelves until the 16th, and not the 14th when it will ship.  Check the CyberTLC Message Board for more details on the video.  From what we hear, it should be out in 1-3 weeks from now.  TRL already had one false premiere date for the video, but keep your ears open and your eyes to this site and we'll let you know as soon as we find out when it will premiere.  Should be hot!

07/19/01  There seems to be a lot of mixed reaction on Left Eye's first single, "Block Party."  Well, Billboard.com released their review of the song, and it was far from stellar.  According to them, "On its own, though, Lopes' high-pitched vocals and rapping - and the lack of a solid hook - leave this song standing on unstable ground. The sound of whining voices repeating and an indiscernible chorus at the end of the song doesn't help Lopes plead her case, either. Without the harmonies and more formidable vocals of her TLC compatriots T-Boz and Chilli, ``The Block Party'' simply doesn't possess enough punch to hit."  I'd say I have to agree...

07/21/01  Here's some news from Ron.  First off, the video.  There is no definite date for it to premiere yet, but he said he guesses it will be out in a week and a half to two weeks from now.  Be watching.  Oh, and are there any thoughts on a second single as of yet?  "Don't know, but I like 'Life Is Like A Park.'"

07/24/01  Looks like "The Block Party" is spreading.  I was listening to the radio at midnight a few nights ago and sure enough, they played the new jam by Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes.  You know if they're playing it here in Iowa that they gotta be playing it tons of other places.  Start requesting the song!

07/31/01  CyberTLC World is the first to bring you pictures from "The Block Party" video courtesy of Eric Flores.  Look to the left for four different pictures from the video shoot.  No word yet on when it will be airing, but stay tuned.  Look to the left for the pictures, or head to the Left Eye Pics section.

07/31/01  While there are mixed reactions on "The Block Party," I'm sure people will be happy to hear that the song was the 6th most added track to Urban radio last week!  Various DJ's commented on the track, with words ranging from "This record is very different and perfect for the summer. If you're open-minded, you'll embrace it," to "Tight! Blowin' up at night!"

07/31/01  I just added two more new pics from "The Block Party" video shoot.  Look to the left.  These are courtesy of another TLC fan who was so nice as to send them to me in e-mail.  I forgot the person's name and e-mail address or I would post it.  Either way, you know who you are, and thanks!

09/01/01  According to LA Reid, the reason Lisa's solo album was pushed back was because it wasn't as finished as they had thought.  He went on to say that the "Block Party" video will premiere in September, which will be closer to the album release date of October.  News courtesy of TLC Jigga

10/03/01  It seems as though "The Block Party" video is a hard one to catch.  It has aired on Nickelodeon and Much Music, but MTV has only aired it overseas.  If you are one of the people who have yet to see the video, you can click here to view it  in it's entirety online.

10/14/01  "The Block Party" CD single has been released overseas and on import, and it includes some new tracks!  The two new songs added to the single include "Tampered With," which talks about rape, and "Friends, " which talks about friendship.  The CD single also features a Dallas Austin remix of "The Block Party," along with another remix.  You can check out "Tampered With" in the Audio section, as well as the lyrics for the track.  We'll be getting "Friends" up and the remixes for "The Block Party" shortly.

10/28/01  Supernova has been delayed yet again.....in the US anyway.  According to Entertainment Weekly, the video and single for "The Block Party" stiffed in the United States, which prompted Arista Records to push the album back to 2002 while Lisa records new material for the album.  Overseas however, the album AND single have been released.  Funny enough, it's doing quite well in Europe, with "The Block Party" charting at number 9 on this weeks UK R&B charts.

Snow is on the song.

"Let Me Live"

08/09/01  As we reported two days ago, Lisa's album has been pushed back.  The new street date for the album is October 16th, 2001.  In the meantime, CyberTLC World will be putting up RealAudio of six tracks from the album before any other site (of course).  The tracks will include "Life Is Like A Park," "Let Me Life," "I Believe In Me," and "Head To The Sky."  Stay tuned for the audio to these tracks as well as the lyrics in the coming days.

09/01/01  Lisa was on Select MTV in Europe and other locations the other day, and weighed in on her album.  She said that her favorite song was "Let Me Live," and said that she will go on an international tour to promote the album.

"My favorite song on there is definitely 'Let Me Live'. The producer just has a knack of taking a variety of sounds that you don't think are going to sound right together, and making them gel. So I love the production and I love the lyrical content and the message behind it. It just promotes living and we all want to live long happy healthy lives. I always tell people if you want to do that you have to eat right, you have to sweat a little bit every day, you have to laugh and you have to listen to 'Let Me Live'!"  And how exactly did Lisa choose which tracks to put on the album?  "We recorded 25 tracks, we tried not to repeat a subject. And at the end of the day I was adamant that we'd only include songs that had a very positive message. A lot of times my A&R guy would give me an idea and I'd think I don't want to sing about this or I don't want to rap about this but I respected his creative opinion and we completed the song and some of those songs actually came out very good and some of them I decided, No we can't put this song on the album, this doesn't represent who I am or what I want to say."

06/03/01  We told you a few weeks ago that Lisa was going to LA to work with some producers for her album.  Who would those be?  Well, we hear that one of them is Rick Rock.  No word if the track(s) he did for Lisa will be included on her album or not, but we'll find out sooner or later!

Left Eye's best friend, Trena, stated that the song is based around her.

"I Believe in Me"

Song title was announced June, 23rd, 2001

06/28/01 Here are a few more details on the 'Supernova' tracks.  First off, "Block Party" was produced by Salaam Remi.  Then on the Rockwilder produced "Hot," Lisa raps "She's the one you thought would never do a solo LP/Yeah, now what chick could outsell me?''  And on "I Believe In Me," she raps the line "I'm a Diana Ross and not a Supreme."

08/17/01 'I Believe In Me' is about the press."

09/05/01  Miss Lisa appears in the new issue of Interview magazine with Bjork on the cover.  The article talks about how Lisa's grandmother used to brainwash her against her mom, how Andre and she value love over materialism (that's why they're able to get over the fire incident,) and how she hated saying 'Hi my name is Lisa, I'm an alcoholic' when she was in rehab.  The highlight of the interview was when she was asked about " I Believe In Me."
DE: In the song, "I Believe In Me" you say, "I am Diana Ross and not a Supreme." Did that irritate the other member of TLC?"
LE: That's what it's supposed to do. (Laughs) What would my record be without lines like that?  I don't know if it's gonna offend them or not.  I don't know if they've heard of it.  I haven't personally sent them a copy of it.
DE: In the same song you say, "Well the truth is, I still got love for my group." So you diss them and then you say the opposite?
LE: Well, that Diana Ross line is not meant to be negative. The important thing is that I'm bigger than being a member of TLC. I am my one entity. News courtesy of Cyptron01

10/28/01  Dotmusic recently reviewed Supernova, with some interesting things said.  "'I Believe In Me' tackles her low self-esteem by reciting TLC's sales figures and the great line, "I'm Diana Ross and not a Supreme", which'll provoke some interesting discussions when her band reconvene in the studio. For those of us who find the airbrushed niceness of Beyonce Knowles increasingly irritating, it's great to have Left Eye back."

Snow is on this song.

"Rags to Riches"

"True Confessions"

"Untouchable"

' 06/03/01  Here's another artist to add to the list of guest appearances: 2Pac.  When Lisa did a track for his album, she worked out a deal with Afeni.  Afeni has about 75 tracks that she shops around to other artists or to use on upcoming 2Pac albums.  Lisa picked an older song from the Makavelli days called "Untouchable."  The producers wanted Lisa to remix the beat to the track, but she decided to stick with the original beat.  However, they are taking the Outlawz off of it.  The original track is comprised of two main verses.  It's still unclear whether Lisa will use both verses, one, or just use snippets from both.  Have to wait on that one.  So what will the track be called, will the title be changed for Lisa's album?  Ron said that  "It will probably [still] be 'Untouchable.'"  Cool.  Should be hot! '

' 06/23/01 Song titles.  First off, the 2Pac song.  We gave you some exclusive info on the track a few weeks ago, and said that it would be called "Untouchable."  Right now, that is confirmed.  Lisa kept the song title, and used the 2Pac verses from the original.  CyberTLC World has a copy of the very original track and verses, and put the lyrics on the site a while back.  Be sure to check it out - this will be your first glimpse into something from Left Eye's album. '

08/11/01  In a recent interview with MTV, Left Eye gave some details on the 2Pac track on her album.  "The track with Tupac is titled 'Untouchable,' and it speaks for itself," Left Eye said. "Tupac and everything about him is untouchable to me. I didn't record the song with him. I got a copy of the song and his lyrics were on the track. If you want to talk about whether I recorded it before or after his death, I can't answer that. It's still a mystery to me."  Left Eye said she asks about the mysteries of life, and the mysteries of Pac's life, on the track.  "I'm basically asking him to answer those questions for me," she said. "In the third verse he gives me his view from the other side. Some of the song's lyrics are so heavy. He says things like, 'You remember me legendary, I live eternally.' He produced the song. It's dynamite to me because he isn't known as a producer. It's like a double whammy because I get a song produced by Tupac, a song featuring him that actually features me. I'm featured on a Tupac song on my album."

07/04/01 Andre Rison is working on an album through Left Eye Productions.  Lisa has also been working with him and will appear on the album.  And what will Lisa's name be when she's married to Andre?  She seems to like Nicole Rison lol.  Anyway.  News courtesy of the CyberTLC Message Board

Left Eye wanted Jay-Z on this song.

"Head to the Sky"

"The Universal Quest"

08/09/01  As we reported two days ago, Lisa's album has been pushed back.  The new street date for the album is October 16th, 2001.  In the meantime, CyberTLC World will be putting up RealAudio of six tracks from the album before any other site (of course).  The tracks will include "Life Is Like A Park," "Let Me Life," "I Believe In Me," and "Head To The Sky."  Stay tuned for the audio to these tracks as well as the lyrics in the coming days.

08/17/01  'Head To The Sky' touches on the unfortunate things that happened among the school kids at Columbine; but it's really an uplifting song.

' 08/17/00: She said it would feature work by two up-and-coming production teams, Twin Dragons and Cool Ruckus. No well-known producers have signed on yet, she said, stressing that she was more concerned about music quality than name recognition.  "My thing is hot tracks that I think I can work with or will work with my project and the direction I'm taking it in," she said. "With the well-known producers, there's a listening session that we would have to go through so that I can pick tracks, as opposed to me hiring them and taking whatever they give me."

08/17/01  What are the meanings behind some of Lisa's songs?  Well, let her explain.  "In the song called 'Universal Quest,' I question our existence in this realm.

"A New Star is Born"

"Breathe"

05/18/02  Many people have begun to report that stores are selling the 'Supernova' album.......the US version......and NOT an import.  This is still unconfirmed, but CDNOW has listed a tracklisting for Supernova which is a tad bit different.  On track 13, which is the bonus track, it is labeled as "Breathe/Where The Heart Is (featuring Grant Geissman)."  Well, I looked into this and got a copy of the track.  It is nothing different.  Apparently they changed the name a bit?  Who knows.  Either way, Grant Geissman must be the dude singing in the background of the chorus with Lisa.  We can't be for sure since the import doesn't have credits listed for track 13, being that it is a bonus track.  I'll keep you posted :-)

' 10/26/00  Here's a message from Left Eye herself asking a favor from the fans.  She is responding to posts on the CyberTLC Message Board and the love that people have shown.  "My fellow citizens... Thank you for your kind thoughts and uplifting words. As I was reading YOUR messages, I got so caught up in 'em that I went into a zone. Then, something dawned on me. See... I'm writing a song and I could use your help. I feel like I'm writing a term paper to be honest. What the subject at hand is dealing with has to do with carrots in a sense. I'm trying to give you hints, without giving you all the answers. If you could e-mail lebigbro_cc@yahoo.com with any information regarding the origin of carrots, I would gladly appreciate it. Please consider this your Mission #2. Thank You! Until the next time... be safe.  Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes" '

' 10/31/00  Seems like everyone has carrots on their minds these days after Lisa's recent 'clue' she left on the message board.  I talked to Ron and a lot of people are confused and heading in the wrong direction.  So, to help things along a bit, he has given everyone a clue.  The clue reads: Were carrots created by God or by man?  This should set you on a better track.  The answer to this riddle will be the title of a song on Lisa's upcoming album, and will be the central theme of the track as well.  The song itself won't deal with carrots, but will be based on the origin of carrots theme.  Hmmm...  '

' 06/03/01  Here's another Ron Lopes album update :-)  A few months ago, Lisa herself came to the CyberTLC Board to run a little contest about 'carrots.'  She wanted to know 'the origin of carrots' that dealt with a song she was writing.  The answer to the origin of carrots would be the title to the song she was writing.  Lisa and CyberTLC World left you hanging for a while, but here's the answer.  A beet and a yam were supposedly used to create a carrot.  And the answer?  "Cross Breed."  That would have been the title to the song she was writing.  However, Ron says that he doesn't think the song will make the cut on the album.  Still cool though, huh?  Oh, and another thing.  A few days ago we reported that Lisa would have approximately 12 tracks on her album.  Ron changed that now to 12, "plus probably a bonus."  Interesting :-)  The solo album will also be released only via Arista and will have nothing to do with Lisa and Ian's label, Wish Records.  And a single?  They know what they plan on using, and may even have a radio single.  Wait and see!
