Wish Records

'Wish Records' was a record company Lisa founded with TLC founder, Ian Burke, in the year 2000. This was Lisa's level up from Left Eye Productions, and instead of, like Ian, helping to get Artists signed to a label, to actually signing them themselves. The label may have been another branch from Arista Records, like LaFace Records.

They were open to signing Artists who catered to many demographics of music, whether R&B, Pop, Heavy Metal, Country, Latin, J-Pop, Hip-Hop, it didn't matter.

(Rap Artist)

Luis Cartegena

Although they both had plans for Wish Records, however, since Lisa started working on her solo album, 'Supernova', already as an artist under Arista Records herself, it became her main priority to finish. It's like when she had to turn down Season 2 of 'The Cut' because TLC was working again, promoting 'FanMail'. She was unable fulfill her half of their obligations and Wish Records was no longer after Ian decided he was going to continue without her.

Here are some excerpts from the abandoned 'Left Eye Updates' site:

07/21/00  Though this doesn't directly relate to "Fantasy.com," I'm pretty sure that it soon will.  Left Eye has started her own record label called Wish Records with longtime friend and founder of TLC Ian Burke.  Wish Records will be an extension of Left Eye Productions, of which Lisa recently said she was done developing new artists.  Now it seems she has a place to get them signed as well.  My guess is that Wish Records will be distributed by Arista/BMG, just as TLC is via LaFace.  "It gives me a great opportunity to help other artists and to expand on my creativity," Lopes said in a statement announcing the launch of the label.  So what exactly does this have to do with "Fantasy.com?"  I highly suspect that Lisa will be releasing her solo album on her own label, both to get more money in the long run and to be able to control other aspects of the album.  I guess we wait and see...

08/17/00  Looks like Left Eye isn't done with the artists yet.  So far Left Eye's new Wish Records has signed five acts: rapping duo Rusx (pronounced Rush), solo rapper Marquise, Latin singer Luis Cartegena, country singer Jason Bowen, and female vocalist Shonda.  All the names so far are new except Shonda, who Lisa has been 'molding' for quite some time now.  "I've really been focusing on artists who perform, sing, or rap as well as produce."  Ian Burke, Lisa's partner in Wish, said the company strives for a broad artistic vision. "We didn't want to be the typical rap, urban label. We wanted to keep our doors open for just music in general. We're also looking at a rock-rap band. We want to be different in the fact that we cross all genres."  Burke said that while Wish was focusing on developing artists and securing recording contracts with major record labels, the company eventually might become a full-fledged label.

03/19/01  Well, I talked to Left Eye's friend and colleague Ian Burke tonight, who shed some light on the progress of the album.  First off, the status of Lisa and Ian's joint venture, Wish Records.  "Wish has been put on hold so Lisa can focus on her solo record," Ian said.  Ian isn't really working on her album in any aspect, but he said they're "...just trying to finish her record.  We'll pick it [Wish Records] back up when we're done."  And the completion status on the album?  "Plenty of trax or complete or near completion, who's on the album right now is top secret."  Ow.  Seems like everything Lisa does in regards to this album is top secret.  It had better be worth the wait and anticipation :-)  So what about that wish list of performers she wanted to appear, any of them on the album for sure?  I was only given a "maybe...maybe not" answer on that one.  And to tie it all together, when will it be out?  "It's on the way...please believe."

04/13/01  Looks as though Lisa's company, Left Eye Productions, may not be around anymore.  In the credits from the new 2Pac album, it lists her company as being Left Eye Music.  This may just be a new facet of Left Eye Productions that she has created, but from what I understand, with Lisa starting Wish Records and the Left Eye Music venture, Left Eye Productions may be a thing of the past.  We'll see.

04/22/01  Talked to Lisa's colleague Ian Burke quickly, and asked about the album.  First off, is it still planned for 2001?  "Yes sir..."  And what about those other Wish Records acts, are any of them on the agenda, and if so, any guesses on who we'll be hearing from first?  "Hmmm...not yet, Lisa is still the primary focus thus far."  But that's not all.  "...I'll give you a little something else...there may be another TLC record out this year and not just a Greatest Hits...that's all I'm saying and I can neither confirm nor deny that this is going to happen..."  Sounds like three or four albums in one year!?  TLC's new album, Left Eye's solo, Chilli's solo, and maybe even a Greatest Hits?  Don't give up hope on the group yet!

06/03/01  Here's another Ron Lopes album update :-)  A few months ago, Lisa herself came to the CyberTLC Board to run a little contest about 'carrots.'  She wanted to know 'the origin of carrots' that dealt with a song she was writing.  The answer to the origin of carrots would be the title to the song she was writing.  Lisa and CyberTLC World left you hanging for a while, but here's the answer.  A beet and a yam were supposedly used to create a carrot.  And the answer?  "Cross Breed."  That would have been the title to the song she was writing.  However, Ron says that he doesn't think the song will make the cut on the album.  Still cool though, huh?  Oh, and another thing.  A few days ago we reported that Lisa would have approximately 12 tracks on her album.  Ron changed that now to 12, "plus probably a bonus."  Interesting :-)  The solo album will also be released only via Arista and will have nothing to do with Lisa and Ian's label, Wish Records.  And a single?  They know what they plan on using, and may even have a radio single.  Wait and see !

06/20/01 We talked with TLC friend and colleague Ian Burke today, and a lot has changed since our last words.  First, Lisa and Ian have went separate ways and are no longer working together.  "We're still friends but we don't communicate like we used to," he said.  "We were moving in 2 separate directions, so we thought it best if we split."  And what were those two different directions?  "She's concentrating on her solo career and I'm still working on developing new artists."  Along with the split comes a new twist.  Lisa will no longer be involved with Wish Records.  Ian said he still plans to go ahead with plans, but without Lisa.  "Tina Novak is my first artist and she's signed to Spere Records which is distributed by Arista.  Her first single will be released in July."  Ms. Novak falls into the R&B/Pop genre.  And about the wedding, will Ian be attending in July?  "I haven't heard any confirmation about a wedding in July."  I asked whether this could be another game Lisa and Andre are playing, in fact having there NOT be a wedding, and he said "Yeah she may be good at that but I haven't been around so I wouldn't know."  Makes you wonder...
