In the Name of TLC
Babyface "Another Sad Love Song" VS Toni Braxton "Breathe Again"
Back in 2014, Toni Braxton and Babyface dropped their first duo album called 'Love, Marriage, and Divorce'. While doing promo for the album together, Toni was asked about her smash hit "Breathe Again" that if Babyface wrote it for her, and she responded, saying that it was not originally for her when he gave her the cassette tape, the demo. In a recent 2017 interview to promote her new single "Deadwood", Toni says the song "Breathe Again" may have been Pebbles' first, but she definitely remember it being pitched to TLC next as a T-Boz lead.
Back to when they were promoting their album, however, when Toni was answering the question, saying it was for TLC, Babyface interrupted, stated that Toni always had the story twisted, that "Breathe Again" was NOT intended TLC, and that "Another Sad Love Song" was written for TLC instead. For those that don't know, "Another Sad Love Song" is one of the songs off of her debut self-titled 1993 album that Toni said was NOT intended for her, but was for the fellow legendary Anita Baker instead, which includes "You Mean the World to Me" and "Love Shoulda Brought You Home". So Toni stated that Babyface wrote for thousands of artists. So she would understand if he got it mixed up instead of herself because she clearly remembers the opposite.
Even though they don't have a solid united answer as to which song was supposed to be for TLC, let's talk about which album one of these songs were supposed to be on. đ¤đ¤đ¤ I (Jordan) used to think they were for 'Ooooooohhhhhh... On the TLC Tip', but looking at Toni's timeline for her first era, and hearing TLC's "Caught in Your World", it would make a lot of sense knowing one of these songs were actually intended for 'CrazySexyCool'. As cool as "Breathe Again" may would have sounded if T-Boz song it too, I could see "Another Sad Love Song" being the song instead because not only does the sound marries more with 'CrazySexyCool', but the fact that Debra Killings is singing background on that song sells it more to me, but that's our opinion.
