TLC's "Left Eye" Lopes To Take Magical Journey With Solo LP Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes Real Video TLC's newest single, "Unpretty," has leapt into the Top 5 of the Billboard singles chart, and despite rumors of internal friction between the band during the making of the "Fanmail" LP, TLC says it will support the new record with a world tour.
That outing is expected to kick off in the fall. Meanwhile, TLC's Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes still has a solo album she's been working on since last year, and which Lopes intended to release prior to "Fanmail" (see "TLC's 'Left Eye' Lopes Delays Solo Album, May Collaborate With Wyclef And Pras").
Lopes was on the master of ceremonies at this year's "Source" Awards, and talked about the multimedia experience fans can expect from her solo record with MTV's Chris Connelly.
"Well, let's just say that I'm gonna take everyone on a magical journey, OK," Lopes said. "It's very, very creative, yet real at the same time. It's gonna be a triple-tiered [production]. So we're talking about album, animation, DVD, you know." [RealVideo]
A release date has yet to be set for Lopes' solo album.
TLC will be looking to reap some of the benefits of its hit record at the Video Music Awards, where they have been nominated in six categories, including "Best Hip Hop Video" for "No Scrubs." The group will also perform at the 1999 Video Music Awards, which will be broadcast live from New York City's Metropolitan Opera House in Lincoln Center on September 9 at 8 p.m. (ET).
