Meet Lisa's ex-boyfriend, Sky Keeton
Sky Keeton, born as Schuylar Synclair Keeton, is 7x Grammy Award winning artist who was born in a small town of Laurel, Mississippi. He was raised by his mother, Gloria, and his father Schuylar. Just like Lisa, he started performing at the early age of 5, but being in a household band with his siblings. They’d create new songs by using kitchen appliances, and because his mother loves a large variety of music, he grew a large appreciation for all kinds of genres, but it was Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’ and Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ that got him the most. He grew up in different bands, one called ‘First Class’ with his buddies from the neighbor hood. He wrote his first song with them called “Love is Here”. They even recorded it. He also attended Northeast Jones High School and studied at Princeton University. until he decided to take his career up a notch, and move to Atlanta, GA.
Lisa met Sky while he was performing at a bar, and she fell in love with his voice. She met up with him right after his performance to get him a deal with her at Left Eye Productions, and once she found out he was homeless, coming to Atlanta just like how he she did, she automatically invited him to live with her in her new home. He fell under her wings as her client/friend/protege with Blaque, Silhouette, Jena-Si-Qua, and her cousin Tangi Forman. They started working together on music. She made sure she helped network him around like the other artists, and encouraging him to keep making the kind of music he was making. She found his sound very unique and taught him not to ever compromise his music for anything. He got his first break singing on Lil’ Jon and the East Side Boys’ song “Where Dem Girlz At?” in 2000. Lisa knew Kurupt was his favorite rapper and also introduced them around the time Lisa started joining Tha Row by having Kurupt perform at Sky’s birthday party.
Time flew, and people picked up on Sky’s crush on Lisa. Lisa revealed to a fan that she found him as a “fine choice for a woman”, but wanted to keep it strictly professional. Both ended up taking the risk anyways, and decided to play both fields. As they traveled, and kept working, it didn’t stop them from making time for each other as they’d get together and go on dates the times they were together and broken up, around the 5 years they’ve lived together. Within that time frame, Sky ended up having 2 kids, first a daughter around 1998 and a son around 2001. Even though his children were encouraging him to be more of the loving father and family man he wanted it be, he still hit dark times, especially when Lisa passed in 2002. It hurt him real bad, though he kept pressing on with his music and in the business with the love she gave him, the memories, and lessons she taught him about being an artist he’ll never forget....
That next year, in 2003, started working with David Banner on songs like “Choose Me”, “My Lord”, “This Christmas Song” with as well Marcus, “Pop That”, and “My Life”, providing leading vocals, background vocals ,and lyrics, making history with him back home in Mississipii. He later wrote a song for Veronica Vega called “Pay Me”, collaborating with hit producers and songwriters like Keri Hilson, Polo Da Don, David Banner, Jason Derulo, and Akon. He also became one of the biggest songwriters in the UK, Australia, Asia, and other areas, earning 5 Grammys to his name.
In 2011, not only did Sky have another child, a daughter at that, around a year old, he released his first music video to a song called “Earth Angel”. He also started an R&B male group called SBB (The Sons of Bobby Brown) with Jason Weaver (ATL, Smart Guy, Drumline, Lottery Ticket). Sky was writing for Jason when Jason decided to expand more as a singer and songwriter. Both of them were writing for other artists as well, and the name came about when they kept telling everyone that they’re on some Bobby Brown stuff, meaning their material “had an edge to it, some soul, it was on some rock star stuff “ and from then on they kept telling everyone they’re the sons of Bobby Brown. They worked on a mixtape called ‘Kingdom Road’, their first project, hosted by Bobby Brown himself, with their debut single “You Got Me”. They shot a music video for it as well along to another song, and worked on a self-titled debut LP together. While in the group, Sky featured on Daz Dillinger’s song “Come Thru” and shot a music video for that one too for his album Witit Witit. Sky worked with other artists as well, and made appearances in music videos, including The Dogpound for their song “I’m a Boss (Freestyle)”
In 2012, 10 years after her passing, Sky released a song dedicated to Lisa on SoundCloud where he morns of her absence, wishing they were together again, and if he killed himself, would he meet her again, or would he be an “Eternal Feel”. He also released other songs called “Acid Rain”, “No Matter What”, and “Jam Rock Girl”.
In 2014, SBB decided to turn the duo into a trio with rapper/writer name Attitude, renaming the group the Triangle Sound Project. The name pays tribute to the studio they recorded their debut LP by the legendary Tricky Stewart. They released a song together called “We Like’ Em All” featuring Mika Means and received a lot of great reviews! 2 years later, in 2016, Sky released a song with Kurupt called “Mysic River” and shot a music video. Sky has his own company Sky Keeton Inc. where he offers himself as a Music Consultant, Songwriter, Show Host, Performer, and A&R. On that same site, January 2017, he finally dropped his debut album entitled 'Underground King', and named Lisa his Executive Producer. Not only does her estate benefit from this, but it's his way of saying "Thank you" to Lisa for discovering him and helping him become who he is today.
Sky Keeton's 'Underground King' is available online, and according to him it's staring to make a lot of rounds. You can purchase the album on his website for only $7.77.
