(About) Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes - Nasty Girl
In a post in our very own group 'The Eye is Right' where fans were asked what 3 songs they'd play for somebody that has never heard a solo Left Eye song. Fans brought up some good choices, but one of Trena's choices drew a little more attention...
Of course, being Left Eye's best friend, she's going to be the one to hear what we've heard and what we haven't heard. Her choices? "Hot!", "The Block Party", .... and "Nasty Girl". Of course I HAD to ask about that song, and here's the the info she provided:
"A song she did with Trackmasters that never was released using the instrumental from Prince [Vanity 6] "Nasty Girl" track . I have the only copy lol"
Trena denied that it was for 'Supernova', stated that the song was recorded around 1997, and is about Left Eye being a "nasty girl". We joked about the song being a "How Do You Like It?" 2.0. lol. I asked if she can release it and she followed:
"I won't play it, but it was a song we just went to the studio to do that's all. Prince wouldn't clear it, but he always wanted her to perform it whenever we encountered him. Crazy, huh? Its buried under a lot of stuff lol"
Now.... I will also mention this... In CyberTLC World , there's a song listed in the 'Unreleased Track Titles' section under 'TLC' called "Nasty Girl" with Trackmasters listed as the producers, Samuel Barnes & Jean Claude Olivier as writers, and published by Jelly’s Jams LLC & Jumping Bean Songs LLC. I asked Trena if there's a connection. This was her response in regards of that and solo TLC music in general:
"It might be the song." I made her aware that the info was found on ASCAP and was being mentioned as a TLC song she followed " Yes but it wasn't a TLC song tho. Keep in mind, back in the day, anything they did separately was still considered a TLC song."
